Al-Hidayah Campus Qirāt Competition: Celebrating the Divine Beauty of the Quran
The Qirāt (Quran Recitation) Competition at Al-Hidayah Campus was a spiritually uplifting event that brought together students in a heartfelt display of devotion, discipline, and love for the words of Allah (SWT). The competition aimed to instill a deep connection with the Holy Quran, encouraging students to perfect their recitation with Tajweed (proper pronunciation) and Tarteel (measured recitation), as commanded in the Quran:
“And recite the Quran with measured recitation.” (Surah Al-Muzzammil 73:4)
The Significance of Qirāt in Islam
The Quran is the ultimate source of guidance for mankind, and its recitation holds immense rewards. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“The best among you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5027)
Reciting the Quran with purity of heart, humility, and correct pronunciation is not just an act of worship but also a means to attain inner peace, discipline, and closeness to Allah (SWT).
Highlights of the Competition
- A Spiritual Opening
The event commenced with a solemn dua (supplication) followed by an inspiring talk by an esteemed scholar on the virtues of Quranic recitation and the responsibility of preserving its authenticity.
- Categories of Recitation
Participants were grouped based on their age and proficiency in Qirāt. Each student was judged on:
- Tajweed (Pronunciation & Articulation): Ensuring correct pronunciation of Arabic letters.
- Tarteel (Rhythm & Fluency): Reciting in a balanced, flowing manner.
- Voice & Melody: Beautifying the recitation while maintaining humility, as taught by the Prophet (PBUH):
“Beautify the Quran with your voices.” (Sunan Abi Dawood 1468)

- Inspirational Recitations
Students recited verses from various Surahs, filling the atmosphere with serenity and reverence. The power of their voices, infused with sincerity, moved the audience, reminding everyone of the majesty of Allah’s words.
- Judges and Evaluation
A panel of qualified Ulama (Islamic scholars) and experienced Qaris meticulously evaluated each participant, offering constructive feedback to help students enhance their recitation skills.
- The Impact: A Renewed Connection with the Quran
Beyond the competition, this event served as a reminder that the Quran is not just meant to be recited but lived. It inspired students to:
- Make Quran recitation a daily habit.
- Strive for memorization (Hifz) and deeper understanding.
- Implement the Quran’s teachings in their character and actions.
Awards and Acknowledgments
The event concluded with an award ceremony where students received certificates and trophies in recognition of their efforts. However, the greatest reward was the spiritual enrichment gained from reciting and listening to the words of Allah (SWT).
The Al-Hidayah Campus Qirāt Competition was not just a contest but a soul-enriching experience, reinforcing the school’s commitment to nurturing piety, knowledge, and love for the Quran among its students.
As the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“The one who recites the Quran skillfully will be in the company of noble, righteous angels.” (Sahih Muslim 798)
May Allah (SWT) bless all the participants and grant them the ability to continue their journey with the Quran, not just in recitation, but in understanding and implementation
